About the event
Leading Coding Robotics & AI Enrichment Workshop
Building a Collaborative Robot
How can intelligent machines support human needs?
This enrichment workshop, delivered by Leading Coding, the most professional coding and
AI education centre in Australia, invites gifted and high-ability students to explore robotics
and artificial intelligence through purposeful design and problem-solving.
Rather than focusing on technology for its own sake, students are guided to ask deeper
questions:
What problems are worth solving?
How can intelligent systems be designed to assist people?
Using LEGO robotics and introductory programming, students will design, build, and refine a
robot that can help carry objects — applying logical reasoning, creativity, and collaborative
thinking throughout the process.
Learning Focus
This lesson is designed to support gifted learners by developing:
Systems thinking through designing a functional robotic solution
Analytical and logical reasoning via structured programming tasks
Creative problem-solving by translating real-world needs into technical designs
Collaboration and communication through team-based exploration
Ethical awareness of AI and technology as tools to support, not replace, humans
What Students Will Experience
Students will:
1. Identify a real-world challenge and clarify the underlying problem
2. Design and construct a robotic solution using LEGO components
3. Program movement and functionality using age-appropriate coding concepts
4. Test, refine, and articulate their design decisions
The emphasis is on thinking processes, iteration, and reflective discussion — key strengths of
gifted education.
Why This Matters for Gifted Learners
Gifted students often seek depth, meaning, and intellectual challenge. This workshop
provides an environment where students can engage with complex ideas in a concrete and
accessible way, while laying foundations for future learning in robotics, coding, and artificial
intelligence.
This session also forms part of Leading Coding’s broader, systematic approach to
developing advanced computational thinking, preparing students for long-term pathways in
computer science, AI, engineering, and related fields.
Key Educational Message
Technology is not about replacing human intelligence — it is about amplifying human
capability.
Students leave the session with a deeper understanding of how robotics and AI can be designed responsibly, creatively, and thoughtfully to serve society.
