About the event
What is the universe made of? And how do scientists study things they can’t even see?
In this exciting two-hour science outreach session, students will explore one of the greatest mysteries in modern physics: dark matter. Through hands-on activities, digital exploration, and scientific storytelling, participants will investigate the evidence for dark matter, learn about what it might be, and discover how scientists in Australia and around the world are working to unlock its secrets.
Students will:
Test their curiosity with “dark matter mystery boxes”, grappling with how to understand the unseen using only indirect clues, just like real researchers.
Experiment with the fabric of spacetime to learn how scientists map dark matter using the bending of light and gravity.
Explore the building blocks of visible matter, like atoms and quarks, through tactile 3D puzzles.
