Hands-on Artificial Intelligence

Explore the exciting world of AI by building, experimenting and asking big questions. 

Together we'll generate images, write stories, build simple apps, explore coding with AI, experiment with voice and music generation, and discover how AI can help with research, creativity and problem solving. Along the way we'll discuss topics such as bias, misinformation, ethics, privacy and how to think critically about AI-generated content.

Rather than simply watching demonstrations, students will be encouraged to experiment, ask questions, test ideas and discover what AI can (and can't) do for themselves.

Whether your child is interested in art, programming, writing, science or simply curious about the future, this workshop will provide a practical introduction to one of the most important technologies of our time.

AI topics will include:

• How large language models work

• AI image generation

• Creating your own game with AI

• AI for research and learning

• AI ethics, privacy and critical thinking

• Building a simple AI-powered application

No prior experience is required, just curiosity and a willingness to experiment. The workshop will adapt to the interests of the group, ensuring everyone leaves having created something and with a better understanding of how AI is shaping the world around us.

About the Presenter (Our GTCASA President):

Geordie Elliott has spent more than 25 years working for a range of organisations from multi-nationals to startups in the fields of technology, insurance, business improvement and software development. He has led large transformation projects, built AI-powered business tools, and is passionate about making complex technology accessible to everyone.

Outside of his professional work, Geordie is an enthusiastic maker, Linux advocate, and dad to three gifted kids. He enjoys introducing young people to emerging technologies through practical, hands-on activities that encourage curiosity, creativity and critical thinking. Rather than focusing on theory alone, his workshops are designed to give students the confidence to explore, ask questions and discover how these technologies can be used to solve real-world problems.
