About the event
Dr Kym Thalassoudis
Stargazing SA

Dr Kym Thalassoudis served for 30 years as a Rocket Propulsion Scientist at the Defence Science & Technology Organisation (DSTO) before retiring in 2019. A prominent South Australian astronomer, his special interests include Astronomy Outreach, Electronically Assisted Astronomy (EAA), astro-imaging and supernova photometry.
Former President of the Astronomical Society of South Australia (ASSA) and now directing Stargazing SA, Kym is also known for creating and publishing The Evening Sky Map, a free sky guide used worldwide for over 25 years by tens of thousands of sky watchers each month to explore the wonders of the Universe.
On the evening Dr Kym will be supported by PK who also shares a strong passion for Astronomy Outreach and the use of digital technologies like EAA to enhance the astronomical experience.

The evening includes:
A Laser-Guided Tour of the Night Sky*
Visual Observation of the Moon, multiple star systems, and star clusters using conventional Optical Telescopes*
Electronic Observation of nebulae, galaxies, a supernova, and an asteroid (with a bit of luck) using Advanced Imaging Telescopes*
A Q&A Session for curious kids and parents
Allowing the children to guide their learnings, by helping direct what we view on the night
A unique and magical way to spend the weekend
